China - Measuring projects as football fields
PM Group’s China operation is based in Shanghai and the bulk of the office's projects are in the Greater Yangtze Delta Region (YDR).
Large scale projects
The YDR is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. It covers an area of 99,600 sq km and has over 140 million people. This represents 1/10 of China’s total population and 1/5 of the country’s GDP. The YRD is the fastest growing and richest regions in East Asia. “It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the scale of the country. We sometimes describe project scale in terms of football fields. A key spirit (alcohol) project we are involved is 35 fields in size, whereas in Europe or elsewhere, typical sizes could be 4 or 5 fields", Says Derek Mowlds, Managing Director, PM Group - Asia
PM Group’s operations in China have experienced double digit growth for six years in a row. “We are now considered market leaders in the pharma/ biologics and food & beverage sectors. As part of our strategy for growth, we are now working on new opportunities in other regions including Sichuan Province and Northern China. These include new facilities for Pernod Ricard, Carlsberg, together with Chinese and multi-national biologics firms”.
