Lewis joined PM Group in 2016 and is now part of a managed service team based at a Pharma client facility in the UK. The team manages small capital projects onsite.

What does your day to day job involve?

In addition to completing detailed design deliverables, I work alongside senior instrument engineers and I’ve gained good experience in estimating for project design. Recently I’ve also started to dip my toes into project management which I’m enjoying. It should stand me in good stead to progress my career aspiration of becoming a Lead Engineer.

What aspects do you enjoy most?

I find being an instrument engineer on site really stimulating and challenging.

I enjoy the fact that on managed service projects, the turnaround is usually extremely quick. I typically get involved in estimates at concept stage and see the project through to commissioning. Contributing through the whole process and witnessing the final result gives a great sense of achievement.

What are the challenges?

Through the pandemic I have been site-based so I’ve had the normality of getting into the car and going to work each day. Working practices have changed greatly though and interactions with others are very much reduced. We have had to think outside the box and find new solutions to everyday issues such as FATs.

Looking at the bigger picture, the lockdowns and irregularity of life has definitely made me reflect a lot. I’m grateful for family and friends, to be in good health, to be working and have great colleagues.
