Meet Zola, Building Services Engineer

We speak to Building Services Engineer Zola about her experiences as a participant on PM Group's Next Graduate Programme.

What attracted you to PM Group?

PM Group takes on projects in a diverse set of industries such as the pharmaceuticals sector, food, medical technologies and mission critical. I wanted the opportunity to work on projects with these companies, designing facilities and providing construction support in multiple sectors.

Your highlight to date?

The opportunity to complete office and site based assignments with the option of international travel. As part of the graduate programme you get a site placement and this allows you to see engineering designs from the concept stage until the completion stage. Thus exposing you to new challenges every day with a chance to be resolved by collaborating with the on-site construction team and design specialists to ensure client satisfaction.

Your biggest challenge to date?

Due to the pandemic most people are working remotely, so not having the usual office routine was a challenge. However, daily catch up calls ensure our team is up to speed and I get support from my colleagues, manager and mentor when required. PM Group has also provided staff with furniture and equipment to assist with working from home.

What do your day-to-day duties look like?

I am working as a building services engineer in the data centre and mission critical industry. On a daily basis, I interact with colleagues from different disciplines across multiple countries on diverse projects. These could be anywhere in the design stage. Due to the range of our work, daily tasks could include mechanical and fire protection engineering design, master planning for future sites, calculations, construction support or carrying out site specific case studies.
