With the world’s population set to rise to 9bn by 2050, protein production from plants is a key focus for the food industry as it looks for more efficient alternatives to animal protein production. One such solution is NapiFeryn BioTech’s protein product, Raptein™, which will be produced using their innovative ALSEOS™ technology.

First of a kind

PM Group is helping NapiFeryn BioTech to develop a first of a kind biorefinery plant to demonstrate the new technology in Poland. NapiFeryn BioTech are an innovative, Polish based technology company developing ways to sustainably create food-grade protein from crops such as rapeseed.

Industrial standard

The next stage of the journey is to develop a biorefinery plant to produce rapeseed proteins. It will be built by Group Wilmar in their existing oil refinery plant in Zorawina (near Wroclaw, in Poland). PM Group were delighted to be appointed by NapiFeryn BioTech to develop the first full-scale biorefinery plant. Using multi-disciplinary food and project experts, the company will help NapiFeryn to adapt the technological process to industrial requirements.  NapiFeryn BioTech, Group Wilmar and PM Group will also work together to design and commission the facility.

Supporting innovation

We were first approached by NapiFeryn BioTech in October 2019 and were delighted to support this new innovative company. It’s a developing and exciting new area and a natural fit for us with our food and sustainability expertise.  We have a team of people from our Birmingham and Wroclaw offices working in partnership with NapiFeryn,” said Tom Waters, Food Sector Director, PM Group.

We’re very excited to be on the next stage of our journey - designing and planning the creation of the first rapeseed biorefinery facility based on NapiFeryn ALSEOS™  technology. Once the commercial facility is operational, within ten years, our goal is to see over 5% of the world’s rapeseed production processed into natural functional protein products using the NapiFeryn BioTech technology.  PM Group is helping us to achieve our ambition providing us with their significant food design and project delivery expertise,“ said Magdalena Kozlowska, CEO, NapiFeryn BioTech.

The project began in November 2019 and involves a team of multi-disciplinary experts from PM Group's UK and Polish offices.
