Supporting client goals

The 45,000 sqm state-of-the-art facility was designed and built to Boston Scientific corporate standards in less than 24 months. To achieve this, Boston's Global Real Estate team turned to PM Group as a long established and trusted partner for the planning, design and procurement of manufacturing facilities internationally.

PM Group's Singapore office led the design and procurement stages of the project and working closely with a local architectural sub-consultant, successfully supported Boston Scientific in the delivery of this world-class, LEED Silver, flagship facility in Asia. PM Group’s scope of services on the project included master-planning, basic and detailed design, permitting, procurement, project controls and construction support.

The initial focus for the Penang facility is on manufacturing cardiology and endoscopy devices. The site has the capacity for additional future activities such as R&D and distribution. The greenfield development incorporates expansive production and warehouse areas. It includes administration and amenities buildings with supporting utilities and site infrastructure.

The GMP compliant manufacturing area comprises over 3,200 sqm clean room space designed to ISO-7 and ISO-8, laboratories, packaging and a diagnostic repair centre.

Speed of delivery

Boston Scientific committed to delivering the facility within a 2-year timeframe. Expertise, commitment and a collaborative team culture were fundamental to achieving this highly ambitious schedule.

PM Group's in-depth knowledge of Boston Scientific's technical standards and project control requirements, along with our know-how in GMP facility design, our multi-disciplinary team and our robust project management processes were key factors in the execution of this project on budget and on schedule.

Sustainable innovation

Boston Scientific places a high value on sustainability, energy performance and low environmental impact. LEED accreditation is a priority consideration on all their major capital projects around the world. The PM Group design team in Singapore led the design and submission process to achieve LEED Silver certification with the US Green Building Council. It also meets Malaysia's Green Building Index (GBI) sustainability standard.
