New Britain Oils Kirkdale refinery in Liverpool, UK, is a ground-breaking vegetable oil refinery. It was recognised by Greenpeace as a world leader in sustainable palm oil production.

The project

This project involved the design and build of a new vegetable oil refinery. Once the site had been selected and a concept layout defined, the team (formerly PM Projen) delivered the project through to testing and client handover. The scope also included management of onsite construction works and development of a brownfield site.

The challenge

The facility involved approximately 150 stainless steel process vessels with piping, electrical and control elements. A process technology provider was used for the main refinery process equipment. All other design work was carried out by our team. Our scope also included mains utility services.

Successful delivery

This was a fast-track project with delivery approximately 18 months from concept to completion. This was achieved by working collaboratively with multiple technology and engineering service providers.
