Innovative approach to malt whisky distilling

Pernod Ricard’s US$150m investment will be phased over the next decade. Situated at Emeishan, Sichuan, the 13-hectare distillery incorporates an innovative approach to malt whisky making.

The state-of-the-art malt whisky distillation facility commenced production in 2021.

PM Group led this project from concept design and land selection as EPCM partner, realising the signature architectural design of Neri&Hu. PM Group’s role included co-ordinating over 15 European and China based stakeholders and vendors working across cultures and 3 languages.

The distillery also houses an immersive visitor centre, with the aim of complementing the local tourism industry by becoming a new world-class destination attracting more than 2 million tourists over its first decade.

Leading with sustainability

The distillery's design combines signature architecture with traditional distilling technology. In line with Pernod Ricard’s global principles of its Sustainability and Responsibility roadmap 2030, the distillery demonstrates respect for the heritage of the region and the land.

This is brought to life through a vernacular design approach that prioritises the preservation of local resources and environment while allowing harmony between the distillery experience and the local environment.
