Accident prevention pillars remain key for process safety management. Ahead of this year’s IChemE Global Awards, Group Head of Process Safety, Catherine Shannon, explains.

"As the transition towards sustainable energy continues, new process safety challenges are being revealed. There is less experience with new technologies. Therefore, identifying and managing specific process safety risks can be difficult.

In order to navigate this transition safely, key accident prevention pillars are more important than ever. These pillars, from the Center for Chemical Process Safety Guidelines, form a risk based process safety management framework:

  • Commit to process safety
  • Understand hazards and risk
  • Manage risk
  • Learn from experience

Successful application of these pillars provides a basis for managing risk during the adoption of new technologies and processes"

Catherine will be presenting the Process Safety Award at this year's IChemE Global Awards on 28th November 2024 in Manchester. PM Group continue to be proud sponsors of this important category for the sixth consecutive year.
